Hoping for the best

Well, for the past 2 weeks I've been having excruciating pain going from my lower back down my leg. Went to the doctor yesterday and he put me in for an MRI which I had today. I'm heavily doped up on vicodin and about 3 other pain meds. They think I ruptured a disc in my back and it's pinching a nerve. Chances are I'm going to need back surgery. Hope for the best. It hurts to do anything.

Everyone keeps talking about spinal fusion, I'm gonna say f**k that, if they're gonna cut me open, they're gonna put an artificial disc in there.

But right now I'm having fun in vicodinland!

I have a disc in my lower back that pops out every once in a while. Last summer in early July it decided to. I was in pain all summer. I still feel it today even. I haven't had surgery (yet) but I have had quite the intamite relationship with my chiropractor.

MRi results came back. I have a bulging disc. I guess thats better than a ruptured one. Unfortunately the vicodin stopped working, and now it's causing insane muscle spasms down my leg.

MAn I am so sorry to hear about all this. Hope everything gets better.... What are they going to do about it?

Apparently the first doctor didn't know how to read an MRI properly. My neurosurgeon took a look at it and I officially have 2, that's right folks, 2 ruptured discs in my lower back. I'm going in monday for an epidural steroid injection to help with the pain, and surgery the end of August. Fun fun fun, and going through all this with my wife deployed to Baghdad until January. They won't give me any more narcotics because I was getting pretty hooked, so I HOPE the shot on Monday kills the pain. My neurosurgeon said if I let this go without surgery I will "eventually wind up pooping myself, peeing myself, and having permanent erectile dysfunction because the disc is pressing on the nerve that controls all of that." My response: "well doc, the first two were a bit scary, but I could deal, that third one..That's a DEAL BREAKER. My wife comes back in January after being gone for six months, and I plan on playing hide the pickle for a good solid week, so lets get this fixed."

Update: Epidural steroids are the shiz. No more pain in my back or in my legs. Of course, it's only temporary to get me through to surgery day, which is now set for September 4th. They're gonna go in and cut out the damaged portions of the discs. A friend of mine had it done and he said he was out of bed and walking as soon as he woke up. Of course, he also had to go back in and eventually have his spine fused, but that's because he just resumed normal activities and jacked his back all to hell. But I'm optimistic. I'll just have to take it easy for 6 months of no heavy lifting.

It's gonna be hard to not put hte boat in the water. But I think my doctor would kill me if he found out I was doing stuff like that. Sucks, I just bought that boat.

Well, surgery is done. They only fixed one disc because the other was already healing on it's own. The pain in my legs is completely gone. My back is pretty sore where they operated though. I am now allowed to lay in bed and walk. No driving for 3 weeks either. Now that the PS3 is only $299 I'm thinking about having my friend drive me to the store to buy one and a couple games to pass the time.

go with sony! microsoft sucks! just think, i own a few ps2's and 2 xbox 360's. xbox blows compared to the ps3.
