| well, after everybody telling me my trans wasnt a muncie transmission. i crawled up under it, pulled the numbers off. ran a search. guess what came up? a muncie 465 trans. well reading up on these all im seeing is "you cant kill these transmissions" givin you give them oil. so i get looking a lil more and i see a few C10 trucks with 454. i getta lookin thinking they would have a TH400 behind it, and they have a 465. which gets me kinda curious. 454 in rusty? good or bad idea? the 350 sbc thats in the c10 is a good runnin motor besides the Q-jet floodin out from time to time. and numbers 5 and 7 burn a lil tad bit of oil. just enough to make a faint haze come out my right tail pipe. i really dont know how manny miles are on the engine. i do beleive its the original. its a 2 bolt main =/. my miliage resets itself at 99,999 miles so i figured it turned it a few times. i really dont care about fuel economy right now. planning on getting a streetbike er somethin. so good or bad idea? http://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/showtopic.php?fid/59/tid/209073/ | |

| I am not familiar with that tranny but the qudrajet carbs are always problems with a few thousand miles on them. I would go for a 500 - 650 Holley if it were mine. If you don't mind the gas gauge moving every time you step on the gas a Holley 750 double pumper would give you some great power as long as the cam is right for that big of a carb.
The tranny I looked up a bit on it and again I've never been around one, but it seems it's a truck tranny with a granny low. I think it would be starting out in second to get off the line in good times. A BW T-10 with a Hurst slap-stick shifter would be a good choice for a four speed with syncros in all gears. But I am old school when it comes to cars.

| lol, im not looking to make it a drag car like the camaro. just to give me some power to melt the tires off the rim if i ever wanted to. i'd love to get a nasty idle cam too and upgrade the rockers and stuff, if i went with a 454 it would be a project and get totally rebuilt if it had over 100,000 miles on it. | |

The planes have taken a back seat to other stuff. I'm still working on my Buccaneer but I have felt much like starting the 1/3 Cub yet. Being honest, it scares the hell out of me. It has a 140 inch wingspan and will weigh in at about 25 pounds. I need someone to take a Super Chipmunk off my hands and I'm not going to lose money on it. I have over 500 in the airframe alone. Other than that I am doing ok. Thanks for asking. Just have felt like writing or much of anything for that matter.

| yeah, i know how that is! i dont know about up there but the heat is KILLER down here, and its not even the hottest part of the year yet!
and jeff, im not doing the 454 swap for a while if i did do it. this ole' 350 is goin strong and its gotta have over 200,000 miles on it. starts right up. tap key and go. no knocks no smoke. just a lil faint bit of smoke. but im probably gonna buy a 454 soon and put it in the celar and start workin on it! rebuild it. i would not like to feed it going up state! oh, did i tell ya'll. my truck gets like 15-20 miles to a gallon. we went a total of about 50-60 miles with a 1,000 pound load in the bed, and then today with a 1,600 pound load! and went from full to 3/4 of a tank. maybe thats alot of gas? NOPE! i have a single 15 gallon tank. my other tank i took out because the valve didnt work n whatnot. so just did away with it.

| the 350 engine i need to get casting numbers off of. but im guessing its around 150-200 horse power or so. its not all that strong. it will spin over the 31x10x15s with 30 psi. roast them in low. turn them a lil in first and chirp them in 2nd. kinda week for a 350. but im doing some exhaust work trying to get it to flow better. i need to check timing also. | |
