Homemade Bug Trap Empty

The Bug Getter.

Summer's here and we all would love to have a backyard BBQ with those pesky little critters which infest fields and sometime garages. This is a little trick we discovered and it works very well as will be seen.

First we need 2 liter bottles... any kind will do. At the label line, cut the top off using the label as a guide. Once the top is off turn the top pouring tip toward the bottle opening we just cut. Push it down until the cut edges are even as as you can get. Take a soldering iron... or heat a piece of wire and poke holes across from each other so you have four holes, two on each side of the bottle. Do this about 1/2- 1 inch from the top lip. Thread most any kind of string, I like fishing line... through the holes to make a hanging basket looking device from the bottle. Take a wire coat hanger and cut a piece of wire about 2 or 3 inches long and bend each end into a V ... one V will have the hanger string or wire placed in it and close the V so it has a grip on the string or wire. The other end is to hook on a convient place in a tree, fence... most anywhere you have a bug problem. Next fill the bottle with about 1-2 inches of water, drop in two or three drips of dish soap and a small tea spoon of sugar then swirl the mixture. Once that's done, hang the bug catcher anywhere you find bugs that bother you.

This is what the container looks like when finished and hanging in my case a tree.

This one is on my fence where I have three more.

This is one I hung last night... look at the bugs which never made it to the party. This traps bees, flies, earwigs... most every bug that likes sugar. Ants go crazy for this thing. They sell these thing a Target and Walmart for 10 bucks apiece. These can be made with the 1 liter bottles too but with less capacity.
