PostSubject: C10 truck....   Thu Apr 09, 2009 11:40 pm

well i sold the camaro engine the other day.
got $400 cash for it.
crappy thing is, earlier i got a email from a guy
saying he'd give me $500 cash for it today!
oh well, guess i should be happy w/ the $400 i got.
so i got about $600 to play around with.
i found this C10 truck.
i love the old C10's.
amazing trucks, nice body styles as well.
and there tuff. anyways im going to look at this tomorrow..
the guy says it runs and drives great and the frame is good under it but the body is rusted pretty bad.

http://daytona.craigslist.org/cto/1110955201.html

if i did buy it i would name it rusty....
lmao. but what do you guys think?

i picked it up for $450
the beds shot, but other then that its really not all that rusted.
the frame is really good.
no rust at all.
motor runs like a champ
has a fully cast iron 4 speed transmission with granny low.
and a 12 bolt rear end.

i just bought all brand new plugs for it,
all brand new oil for it.
the original plugs were all gunked up and all rusted!
the oil was like water! had the same texture.
and was pitch black!
also bought a oil filter and fuel injector cleaner to help clean the carb.
tomorrow im gonna replace the 8mm plug wires
probably get a fuel pump because it takes a second to start.
maybe get a new air filter..
get everything on it like new tune up wise.
oh and get some engine degreaser
and WD-40! sorry, kinda making a list as i type!
then get tag tax n title n ill be good!

hahaha!
you'll never get themmmm!
j/k
ima go take a few shots right now..
i tell ya man, todays been crazy.
lastnight my batterydied so i push started it
and popped the clutch and it it started.
so it let it sit there and idle to charge the battery and it randomly died
well, i knew it was out of gas from it sputtering a lil b4 it cut off.
after that it hit me that my brothers friend needed gas, and lastnight
he said "i pissed by ur tire so if its wet thats why"....well, i smelled under
the truck today and it smelt like gas. so he drained my tank.
i wouldnt have minded giving him gas if he asked for a little.
but not my whole tank. it just ticks me off cuz he leaches off everybody
and lives off everybody and never gives back to anyone.
and the little stuff i have i've worked for. but ima stop raging.
anyways, then i couldnt find my keys, looked EVERYWHERE
for them for like 3 hours then there hanging right by the door
in plain site. after that i got more gas, started my truck and now
its flooding like crazy so now im gonna go pull the carb off because
i think the plugs are leaking down into the intake.
classic quadrajet plugs.

well, i cleaned it on up.. took about 5 hours but i wanted to thorly clean it. i figured out what it was tho. a litter peice of rubber from a hose being pushed on the metal fitting. the metal fitting cut the inside of the hose out and it had a few little rubber peices jammed between the needle and seat. making it where it couldnt close, thus flooding it out. put all new gaskets, needle n seat and whatnot in. now its tap key and go!
like you said you'd be happy when i got a good truck!.....now i do! lol

i got some interior shots.. kinda.. the interior was ok when i got the truck i guess for its age.. the vynal on the dash was cracked.. and the seats were ripped but they have a seat cover over it.. and the plexi over the gauges was faded where you couldnt see the gauges.. so i recovered the dash with this kinda retro cloth i had laying around.. and took the plexi from over the gauges. you can touch them now.... but atleast you can see them! anyways, heres some pictures.

some of the interior..

you can kinda see what i rewrapped the dash with.. all i had.
i could always redo it.

my cool sunroofs! haha..

heres a tweeter that came out of the truck

i guess its original.. it sounds really good n clear! just not very loud at all..

and kasey writes...

its a 1979 short bed C10 truck, 350 small block with 4 speed w/ granny low & 12 bolt differential. its a nice truck. it was deffinatly a luxury truck back in its day if the paint didnt give it away (the wood grain)
i think its still a beautiful truck tho.. even if it is 30 years old!..damn its gonna be going into metapause soon! =/

i found out why the beds so rusted tho! i did some investigating!
i think the owner was a roofer or something that was into something with the ocean! i found shingles in the bed along with roofing nails! i got one in the tire today! i had to put a plug in it. and pushing a spike through 4 ply tread tires was NOT fun!.. along with that i found beach sand!! and a cleat to tie off a boat too.. so it was in contact with the beach! i think they through like ropes soaked in salt water in the bed, it didnt rust like that on its own!

what should i do with a system for my truck?
i have a box for 4 15"s
2 per box.. slot ported..
i could take one box.. put it in the bed and seal it up
and make a blow through..
or i could go with the traditional shallow mount
but i have a good size amount of room behind me seat!

If you can make it sound good with everything inside the cab I would do that. I would never do a blow through unless it was the only option! That is just me!

the ONLY thing i would be worried with a blow through would be sealing up the MDF box completely where water couldnt get to the wood.. because we all knows what happends then... lol. but cutting a hole in the cab and bed would be kinda sketched...
